The rose in this garden is a clone of the historic Damask roses from Gustav Klimt’s own garden at his last studio in Hietzing, Vienna. When the garden of the Klimt Villa was restored, two rose bushes were found to have survived for more than a century; Prof. Herbert Eipeldauer propagated them by grafting – today’s plants are genetically identical to the ones that bloomed while Klimt painted there.
A Damask rose: very full, intensely fragrant flowers, grey-green foliage, arching shrubs, and typically a single flowering a year.
